The CRAB lab is led by Professor Pauline C Haddow and is part of the artificial intelligence group at the Department of Computer and Information Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

The projects of CRAB lab are varied but unified by a general focus on individual-based, bottom-up techniques for investigating the emergence of complex, robust and/or adaptive solutions, whether natural or artificial (in hardware or software).

Many existing and newer bio-inspired techniques are investigated and applied to various application areas as well as to the achievement of future computation materials. Various biological phenomena are investigated, including the mechanisms of neuroscience, development, cell signal transduction and artificial life.

The CRAB lab is part of a number of centres and initiatives including:

The Gemini Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence

The Centre for Advanced Robotics (ROBOTNOR)

The Robotic Lighthouse Project at NTNU
